This month is all about becoming aware of your internal dialogue. We can’t change of what we are unaware. Set aside three times throughout the day when you can take five minutes and ask yourself what you have been telling yourself in the past hour. Identify when you are giving yourself words of encouragement and when you are being self-critical. What triggers are you aware of? How often are you offering yourself compassion vs. judgement? If it helps, keep a journal throughout the month.
To take this a step further, create a positive, loving mantra for yourself that you can say or repeat anytime an unkind thought comes to mind. Repeating mantras are proven to calm your mind. And if we add self-love into that mantra mix, it’ll likely lead us to show ourselves more compassion. It is scientifically proven that changing your thoughts changes the chemical reactions in your body, which then changes your emotions. And your emotions are equal to how you feel, which then generates another thought. And thoughts over time create a belief. So if you want to change your self-beliefs to include more love, it all starts with a single thought. If you aren’t sure where to start, here are some of my favorite self-love mantras:
Breathe. All will be well.
I am strong and worthy.
I am enough.
I am a soul of love. A heart of peace. A mind of stillness.
A being of light.
I welcome all forms of positivity into my life.
I treat myself with love and respect.
